九段下:靖国神社

Kudanshita: Yasukuni Shrine

My eldest child, who will soon be graduating from elementary school, loves history as their favorite subject.

Tokyo is known not only for its abundance of historical buildings,

You can see traces of history everywhere you look.

Amidst this situation, the war in the Middle East intensified,

I thought that perhaps it is precisely at times like these that we should take an interest in war.

I visited Yasukuni Shrine to study history and to pay my respects.

The Yushukan, a historical museum located on the grounds of Yasukuni Shrine,

This museum allows you to learn not only about post-war history but also about Japanese history itself.

I thought it would focus on wartime events, like the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, but

The museum displays materials and documents from various periods.

The atmosphere isn't as heavy and oppressive as I had expected.

Children are showing interest in history and a desire to gradually learn about their own country.

These times have given me an opportunity to relearn things.

May the war end as soon as possible, and may the world take a step towards peace.

With that wish in mind, I left the Yushukan Museum.
