The first time I visited Yokosuka City recently.
It was a wonderful city, with a port town atmosphere and a sense of history, much like Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture and Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture.
This time, my main objective was to visit the Battleship Mikasa Memorial Museum, as my child wanted to learn about history.
However, since it was my first time in Yokosuka, I also took the opportunity to explore the city.
My image of Yokosuka was primarily shaped by delinquent manga I read in junior high school, such as "Shonan Junai Gumi".
Because of that, I had wrongly assumed that Yokosuka would be a dilapidated city, but the city center was well-planned with new buildings, creating a beautiful cityscape.
The day I visited, there was also a festival in the shopping district, making it lively and crowded with people.
I enjoyed exploring the vibrant city.
Yokosuka is also famous for its local foods, including "Yokosuka Navy Curry."
With the U.S. Navy Base there, American foods like hamburgers are also very popular, making it fun to visit various restaurants.
And then, there's the statue of Heihachiro Togo, which stands in front of the Mikasa Memorial Museum, our destination.

It was a history lesson for me as well, but my child was very satisfied, feeling that Heihachiro Togo was somehow charismatic.
There were still other places I wanted to visit on my first trip to Yokosuka,
but it set the stage for a future visit. Summer seems quite hot, so perhaps in autumn.
