What is really a “good watch”?

The maintenance of the Omega Speedmaster that I dropped off the other day has been completed.




It's a little later than planned, but
I'm really glad that we were able to deliver the product safely and that the customer was happy.

This watch is a memorable watch that a customer bought about 20 years ago.
I think it's a model that underwent minor changes about 10 years ago and is now out of production.
This watch was one of the series that was a huge seller at the time.
I had the same watch, although the dial color was different.
I also have a personal feeling about it.

I feel like it's been a while since I talked passionately about watches (lol)
In a sense, it's miraculous that I can talk about watches myself.
I have been working in the watch industry for nearly 20 years, so
Actually, I think it's charming that I'm interested in things other than watches (lol)

Meanwhile, a customer asked me, "What's the best watch?"
My answer has always been the same: ``A watch that can be repaired with a lot of effort.''
That's what I answered.
This has been an answer that hasn't changed since I started working in the watch industry.

Watches are mysterious things, including brands, prices, designs, etc.
A rare item where everything is "from pin to end".
Of course, when it comes to clothes, cars, houses, etc., there is no limit, but
Isn't it only watches that range in price from several thousand yen to several billion yen?

When I was a company employee, I used to sell watches worth hundreds of thousands of yen to tens of millions of yen.
I can say it now, but I have never thought that the watches I was selling were "good".
The reason is simple: it's not something an average office worker can afford.
I never wear things that are too expensive.
It would be weird to commute by train while wearing a 1 million yen watch.
It's called ``unreasonable''.

Rather, as I wrote earlier, if the watch is "from pin to sharp",
Choose the one that suits your lifestyle,
It's cooler to use it properly and maintain it properly.
As written in past blogs, if you value "total balance is important",
Be sure to dress well in work clothes such as suits and on holidays.
I think it's about taking care of your daily life, such as eating and taking care of your body.
After all, a clock is a tool to tell the time.

That said, I think I understand the ``fun of watches'' better than anyone else.
I won't be able to finish writing about it in detail, so I'll save it for another time.
There is also the pleasure of ``collecting'', ``viewing'', and ``owning'' various watches.
Furthermore, the most important thing about watches is ``not the price.''
If high price is the right thing to do, then I'd rather have something that's half-baked at around 3 million yen.
All you have to do is have a watch that costs 100 million yen.
If it is true that the brand name is famous,
Don't be satisfied with just a Rolex, just own a Patek or Lange.
Personally, I like “FP Journe” (lol)
But that's not what watches are all about.

The most important thing is to feel like you like something within your reach.
No matter what anyone says, “This is the best!”
It's the best item that can make the person who gets the item feel the happiest.
Watches have the widest range of possibilities in this world.
Based on this idea, ``use it vigorously'' and ``maintain it properly''.
In my opinion, a truly good watch is one that accomplishes both of these things.

As I say, I bought and used many times more watches and clothes than most people.
When it comes to watches, I am proud that there are very few salespeople with more experience than me.
The current selection for the store is the result of acquiring and using many different items.
That's why I have confidence in all the watches I handle.

I would like to do my best to fix the repairs you request as much as possible!

In terms of price alone, I don't think it's cheap.

I believe that we were able to fully meet the needs of customers who cherish their watches and their feelings.
