1961年12月製造の前期型と1963年3月製造の後期型。

An early model manufactured in December 1961 and a later model manufactured in March 1963.

Both Grand Seiko Firsts that arrived today have upright dials.

Can you tell the difference between the early and later models?

The upright dial has many subtle differences,

The shape of the upright is different, the shape of the hands, the indexes are AD specifications...

There are various other differences, such as:

Among them, the two presented here are the easiest to understand.

This is the back cover of the early model.

This is the back cover of the later model.

At first glance they look the same, but if you look closely you'll see that the shape of their manes is different.

Once you get used to it, the difference is obvious.

But usually it's just a matter of whether you can tell the difference by comparing them (laughs).

But the biggest difference, more than the design, is the material the medallion is made of.

The early model is made of solid 14k gold, while the later model is 14k gold plated.

This is said to have been an attempt to reduce costs in later years,

Whenever the material is changed, the design is also changed.

Since there is no accurate information, we cannot say when the changeover will take place.

It was probably changed to gold-plated material in early 1962.

These small differences in detail are what make Grand Seiko First so interesting.

It's rare to see a watch that underwent so many changes in just three years, from 1960 to 1963.

It would be even more interesting if we could see all the differences together,

This time we introduced the differences between medallions.

The condition of the watches themselves is excellent.

Considering the current prices, I think it is relatively affordable.

If you've been looking for one, don't miss this opportunity!
