Today we received a request to overhaul a Hublot Big Bang.
This is the first time I've had a Hublot overhaul.
The movement is based on the Valjoux Cal. 7750, which was used before the company switched to in-house movements.
I don't know much about Hublot, but I believe they switched to in-house movements about 15 years ago?
It is believed to have been manufactured around 2010, when Valjoux-based machines were common.
Valjoux Bass has previously repaired Omega Speedmaster and IWC Portuguese Chronograph, among others.
Technically, it works without any problems.
However, if you need to replace parts, Hublot cannot arrange it.
When we took possession of it this time, we looked at the back cover and found iron powder in the skeleton glass.
This is also evidence that the machine was forced to operate without any machine oil, so considerable damage is expected.
Running out of machine oil is like running a full marathon with a parched throat.
This means that it will eventually stop working, and the only way to prevent this is to have it overhauled regularly.
I'm not sure if I can fix it this time, so I'll try taking it apart first.
It will take some time to make a decision from there,
If we can't fix it, we'll return it to you.
I don't know how long it will take, but I'll try my best!
