日本製と並ぶ頑丈さを感じるドイツブランドのアイテム。

Items from German brands that feel as sturdy as those made in Japan.

The "IWC Schaffhausen" that arrived today is the so-called Old International, with the brand logo written in cursive.

It is the definitive vintage watch that still has many fans today.

At the time, IWC had many relatively simple items,

characterized by a dial design called "Calatrava style,"

with bullet-like indices and dots scattered around the perimeter.

From the Cal. 89 with a central seconds hand to automatic models,

many people associate Old International with this design.

Personally, I feel that this design embodies the essence of Old International,

and I believe its design charm is different from Seiko or Omega.

The movement is the Cal. 853 automatic, which was standard at the time.

It has IWC's unique structure called the "Pellaton winding system,"

and is one of the masterpieces known for its accuracy and durability.

The movements used in Old Internationals at the time

were often compared to movements from brands like Omega,

but unlike Swiss brands that aimed for thinner movements,

there's a story that IWC movements had thicker parts to improve durability.

IWC, which truly embodies "quality and robustness" with its sturdy and uncompromising feel,

somehow reminds me of Japanese products.

Many items favored by men, such as cars, motorcycles, cameras, and fountain pens,

originate from Germany.

Products that combine the durability of Japanese products with the elegance of European brands,

are truly appealing, representing the best of both worlds.

The atmosphere when worn is full of masculinity, I would say.

The simple and uncluttered design of the watch further enhances that masculine feel.

In addition to such a pared-down design,

the movement pursues accuracy and durability,

making IWC a unique entity that captures the essence of a wristwatch.

This Old International, which we've received after a long time,

is a highly recommended item for me personally.

As I'm not a fan of flashy watches,

I believe that a watch with only simple and essential functions

is what a wristwatch should inherently be.

With more opportunities to wear suits for ceremonies like graduations and entrance ceremonies,

this simple wristwatch feels like it will become even more useful.

A watch that stands out too much can ruin not only one's attire but also the person wearing it.

Anyone of a certain age should understand this:

A watch is an item that makes the person wearing it look wonderful.
