When it comes to Japanese wristwatches, 1960 is the year that Grand Seiko was born.
Seiko takes on the world
Grand Seiko is arguably the pinnacle of Japanese-made watches that are world-renowned.
That memorable first model has now attracted attention from watch collectors around the world.
Even 65 years after its manufacture, it still fascinates many people.
This time, we will be talking about the so-called “engraved dial,” which is considered rare on the GS First.
The GS First dial has three main frames:
It started with the "GrandSeiko" logo printed on it,
Just before the sale, the specifications were changed to this engraved dial,
It was changed to an upright in mid-1961.
This particular model was produced in October 1960, early in the production period.
The logo is engraved in silver and the 12 o'clock index is divided into two plates.
It has features unique to early models, such as mountain-shaped hands.
One theory is that the reason for this was the cost of engraving the dial.
There is even talk of it being changed to an upright index.
You can see that it's an elaborate piece of detail.
The case back features a lion medallion, the symbol of Grand Seiko.
This one also comes in two versions, the early and late, and the one with the more voluminous mane is the early version, made of 14k gold,
The later model has a nearly straight mane and is plated with 14k gold.
From Seiko, which is based in the Suwa factory in Nagano Prefecture,
It was born with the desire to create a watch that is highly precise and durable, and that people can be proud to own.
The detailed construction conveys the feelings of the craftsmen at that time.
A historic masterpiece that once again demonstrates the greatness and delicacy of Japanese-made products.
A watch that makes you proud to be Japanese and proud to be made in Japan.
It makes you realize the true appeal and value of a wristwatch.
